# Open one task

_2026-08-28_

Assistants open one task whole by its reference; browsing shortens long notes, and each task names the app that made it.

- `view_task` reads one task whole, by `TASKAID-45`, `#45` or `45`.
- `view_tasks` shortens long notes, pointing at `view_task` for the rest.
- Notes themselves hold more: up to 10,000 characters per write.
- Tasks include `source`, so assistants can see which app created them.

Reading was all or nothing. The list was the only way in, so an assistant holding a reference had to search for a task it could already name, and long notes came back in full whether or not anyone wanted them.

Now it can open one task. Ask for TASKAID-45, #45 or 45 and that task comes back whole, note included, while the list keeps long notes short and points at the task for the rest. A reference that belongs to someone else is refused by name rather than quietly answering nothing.

Every task also records which app created it, so an assistant can see where work came from.
